Late in his Academy years he was rendered deaf by a sonic device, Starfleet was able to restore his hearing with an implant.Salen's is a very poor swimmer, and has a phobia of water.Salen has difficulty with his emotional control to the point where he's not even sure if he wants to control them or not. He fluctuates from being as stone faced as any Vulcan to far more emotional than a human. These mood swings disturb him, but he does not have the training to prevent them.His telepathic abilities are surprisingly powerful, however much like his emotions he has no control over his abilities.
