This is a rare mutation of a grey fox that has no guard hairs only his under coat! This is a recessive unstable gene, meaning that a Sampson fox can shed into a normal fox and back again. This mutation was once thought to be a part of cryptology, and often mistaken for a chupacabra.
Interesting you say the fur is soft like silk. I have a samson red fox and the fur isn't soft in the slightest! It's actually quite rough and feels similar to faux fur.
Could be. Could also be to do with where he came from. Mine originated from Spain, and European foxes have much coarser fur then North American ones, (more like a coyote then a fox.) It's also an older pelt so that's probably part of it, too.
So I own a rare fox :> Yay!
Anyway, awesome mount!
