Chapter Twenty-five

Neal sat in the corner of his eight by twelve home with his back against the wall.  The small bed built into the wall that he was sitting on was only marginally more comfortable than the floor.  With his knees pulled up to his chest he worked on a small paper origami crane.  Pouring all of his concentration into each fold he created a perfect bird.  He inspected his work with little actual interest in it.

Tossing the tiny origami onto the floor he picked up another sheet of paper off the bed and started another one.  The floor was littered with the discarded paper birds.  Finishing anothe

Chapter Twenty-four

Neal paced the ER waiting room anxiously.  He had reopened the wounds in his side but he had made it more than clear that he wasn't about to let anyone touch him.  Paramedics had taken Peter into OR less than ten minutes ago.  They had been unable to stabilize Peter on the ride to the hospital and his condition had continued to spiral downward.

Riding in the ambulance Neal had retold the story to the medics to help them determine what was wrong.  Beyond coughing up an alarming quantity of blood Peter's heart was arrhythmic and his blood pressure dropped to the point where he could not lon

Chapter Twenty-three

"Peter, we have to do something."

"Stay behind me."

Neal silently agreed and fell in step behind Peter.  For the first time he wished he had a gun so that they could flank Liao.  Unarmed he was more likely to be in the way than any sort of help if a fire fight broke out.  Peter flicked the safety off his own weapon and carefully made his way towards the men's voices.

Despite the chilly autumn night Neal noticed that the back of Peter's neck was slick with sweat.  He had never known his friend to sweat under pressure.  Combined with his clearly labored breathing Neal started to worry

Chapter twenty-two

"Peter?  You alright?"

"Fine."  Peter said as he rubbed at his chest.  "Just sore from the shot, you got me dead center."

"I wanted to make sure that I got the jacket and not you."

"And I appreciate that."  Peter looked Neal over.  "How about you?  Is that my 'blood' or yours?"

Neal looked down at the shiny stain on his black shirt.  Lifting the shirt up he revealed the badly seeping bandage beneath.

"Looks like it's mine."

"You need to go back to the hospital."

"We need to keep on Liao's tail.  I have a spare set of bandages and a clean shirt in the van."

The next evening all of Chinatown was in the streets celebrating. Neal wasn't exactly sure what they were celebrating, but it involved a lot of bright costumes, food, and fireworks. Neal did his best to keep from attracting attention to himself by wearing black pants with a matching silk shirt. However there were not many non-Asians at the festival which did earn him the occasional stare.

Tony rocks (particularly the goatee). I had fun doing his face, he has such a great arrogant smile. He knows that Hawkeye is going to chose him. :giggle:

hahaha, agreed ^^ And I KNOW, his smile is brilliant. And of course he's gonna choose him... come on, if Tony is in the equation, there IS only one choice :P

Hawkeye could be as straight as one of his arrows, but when Tony is involved you just don't say 'no'. :giggle:
