Nightmare

*crack!*</b>

“What the...”

*gush!*</b>

“Wha...what’s happening?”

*splash!*</b>

“What is that?  What time is it?  ...2 am.  Damn it.”

*drip, drip, drip...*</b>

“Oh...my...God!”

It is every aqua-culturist’s worst nightmare...an aquarium break.  This happened to my friend last night at 2 o’clock in the morning when her 37 gallon salt water aquarium practically exploded.  About 25 gallons worth of salt water and fish poured out onto her floor, soaking through and dripping down into the basement, soaking the carpet.

Her house now smells like low tide at the pier.

She has a NanoCube, which is one solid piece of glass molded into a bow fronted aquarium.  Without warning the right hand side burst and the front cracked open.  She has since learnt that this is because the manufactures used glass that was too thin...three years ago.  They didn’t do a recall, but now these tanks are breaking.

So far all of the fish and coral are still alive.

I have lived through this nightmare myself...twice.

The first time it was about 4 am (these things always happen in the wee hours of the morning).  I woke up to the peaceful sounds of a waterfall.

Peaceful until I woke up enough to realize that I don’t have a waterfall.

Stepping out into the living room all I could do was stare.  My 90 gallon aquarium had burst a seam and the water was shooting out of it like four feet.  About thirty gallons were already soaking the floor and when all was said and done about 80 gallons ended up there because I had to get the fish out before dealing with the water loss.

Again, everyone but the rug survived.

About five years later I was sitting in bed reading a book when there was a horrible cracking sound.  I looked up and the 20 gallon long aquarium on my dresser looked like it was bleeding.

There was a thin oozing line diagonal across the front of it.  I furrowed my brow, not fully understanding what was happening when suddenly *WHOOSH!* the front gave way and 20 gallons of saltwater and tiny shrimp were on my floor.  I was raising shrimp for a special fish (a young Lookdown Fish) to eat.  He was living in a 40 gallon on the other side of the room.  The break was caused by the dresser bowing under the weight of the tank.

I’ve also been electrocuted three times by various aquariums, several skin rashes, and I even came down with Campylobacter (and intestinal bacteria infection) once.

Who’s bright idea is it to keep fish in the house?!
Go ahead laugh at our pain.

Watch the fish for a few of the comics.

My embarrassing story.
Computer Power Supplies come with a 24 pin connect that you break for older motherboard into a 20 and 4 pin connector.

Older motherboards also require another 4 pin connector.

One provides 3.3V,5V and ground the other 12V and ground.

Plug in the 3.3V one and turn on.

Boom.Bad smell and beeping on the UPS.

I blew up the PSU.
