Bluebell the Axolotl

My Axolotl stirring up some bloodworms. Yum! She has the 'glow' gene that causes her to glow bright green under a black light. However she *really* doesn't like it, it freaks her out to be exposed to a black light and from this photo (there is no black light in the photo) I think I can see why. If you look in her eyes you can see her pupils are green, meaning that her blood carries the gene (since when you see color in the pupil you are looking at the retina). Even when the gene is in normal light it is a green color. This is actually a 'white' variation of the axolotl but you can see a green cast to the skin under normal light. When she is exposed to a black light and the gene glows the back of her eye must glow as well!! That must be terrifying! So I no longer expose her to black light.

She lives in a tank in a wine cooler so I can keep her water at a nice 58 degrees just like she likes it! Happy little Axo eats out of my hand. She's a wonderful little critter!
