Description

The Shark Tamer

“Charod! Charod where are you going?”

“You don’t want to know.”

“You’re going to the shark breeding grounds again aren’t you?” Delvin sighed.

“I didn’t say that.”

“You didn’t have to, you’ve got that look in your eye.” Devlin chastised. “Why can’t you just tame a dolphin like everyone else?”

“Because a dolphin doesn’t have the skills I need.”

“You really are determined to start a war with the humans.”

“I’m not starting anything!” Charod roared. “They are the ones trespassing!”

“They stay to their boats, what’s the big deal?”

“They slaughter more whales, and pull more of our fish from the sea every day. One day they will start stringing us up by our tails to suffocate in the sun.”

“Charod...if you go to the sharks the Elders will never let you return to the city.”

“I would rather die defending the city as an outcast on the reef’s edge than watch it crumble around me.”

*********

Charod a merman warrior that allies himself with sharks, making him an outcasts among his kind. He despises the men of the land who have dared tried to travel the seas in their ships and sets his sharks upon any man unlucky enough to fall into the sea.

What I love the most about this work is the intensity of the lines. They really highlight the strength and tension in the moment captured. In addition, the details of the anatomy of both the merman and the shark are done really well. Everything from the little lines in the hair to the graceful curves of the muscles is excellent. The overall feel of the work is dark and tense, just what one would expect from a shark encounter. A eerie feel comes from the lighting that bathes the shark, which is great, since it matches the mysterious glow of the merman's eyes.

I have hardly a complaint, though I wish you did more with the background, which pales in comparison to the subjects in the foreground. However, upon closer inspection, I find that the body of the shark is bent in a somewhat strange way.

Overall, I love this. I especially enjoyed the animation and the WIPs. Job well done!
